Lumpy Skin Disease Under Control in Rajasthan, Over 87% Livestock Vaccinated: CM Bhajan Lal Sharma

Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma said that the State Government is fully alert and vigilant about Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) and that the situation is completely under control due to the timely preparations and preventive measures undertaken by the government.

He said that precaution and vigilance are the most effective means of preventing Lumpy Skin Disease among livestock. He directed officials to conduct comprehensive public awareness campaigns in affected areas to educate livestock owners about the symptoms, preventive measures and treatment of the disease, so that they do not panic and take necessary precautions in time.

The Chief Minister was chairing a high-level meeting at his residence on Thursday to review the Lumpy Skin Disease situation and the measures being undertaken for its effective control.

During the meeting, he said that the State Government has undertaken effective and coordinated measures for the protection and development of cattle. He clarified that cases of Lumpy Skin Disease have been reported only in some districts of the eastern region of the State and not across the entire State.

Vaccination and medicine availability to be strengthened

The Chief Minister directed officials to further intensify the vaccination campaign across the State and ensure adequate availability of preventive medicines in affected areas.

He also instructed officials to ensure that infected animals are isolated at gaushalas and other suitable locations and that all necessary arrangements are put in place for their care and treatment.

He directed the concerned officials to maintain continuous field-level surveillance and monitoring. He also stressed the need to encourage livestock owners to follow necessary precautions and ensure continuous departmental monitoring to prevent the spread of the disease.

10,403 livestock infected, 6,905 recovered

Officials of the Animal Husbandry Department informed the meeting that 10,403 livestock have been found infected with Lumpy Skin Disease in the State so far. Of these, 6,905 animals have recovered, with the recovery rate continuing to improve.

Officials further informed that more than 87% of livestock have been vaccinated across the State.

The Animal Husbandry Department has undertaken several measures to prevent and control the disease, including a vaccination campaign, establishment of control rooms at the State and district levels, constitution of Rapid Response Teams at the district and block levels, and distribution of cypermethrin and sodium hypochlorite to livestock owners.

Animal Husbandry Minister Shri Joraram Kumawat joined the meeting through video conference.

Chief Secretary Shri V. Srinivas, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Akhil Arora, Principal Secretary, Finance, Shri Vaibhav Galriya, Principal Secretary, Animal Husbandry and Gopalan Development, Shri Sitaramji Bhale, and other senior officers were also present during the meeting.
